aloft Tempe Hosts Twestival Phoenix

The folks at aloft Tempe are excited to host our event on September 11, 2009. It will run from 6 pm to 9 pm. We are quite excited!
We had three main things we were looking for when selecting a venue for Twestival Phoenix. We wanted to find a great space that would work for our mixer/silent auction, needed a location that was easily accessible and somewhat central, and wanted a venue partner that would enable us to direct the maximum amount of funds to our charity. The less money needed to sponsor the venue/food/drink, the more we could funnel into our fundraising efforts.
aloft Tempe helped us in all aspects.
First of all, it’s just a very cool space. It looks great and it’s perfect for the #phx technology crowd. There are about a zillion power points scattered throughout the lobby. They have wifi and will be granting us free access throughout the night. They are also giving us access to the entire downstairs lobby and back lawn spaces.
aloft Tempe also is pretty centrally located off Scottsdale Rd. and the 202 freeway. It is also quite near the 101.
In addition, they are not charging us any minimums at all. We will have an event sponsor that will cover the included drink for each participant, which aloft Tempe is providing at discount. And since they do not have extensive capactity for food, they are allowing us to bring in our own food without limitation or charge.
They are providing happy hour prices for all from 5 pm to 7 pm. Drink tickets will be redeemable from 7 pm on.
With regard to anything they have control over, they have been completely flexibile. They have accomodated pretty much every request they could.
We will set up tables in the front to enable ticket purchase and check in like we did at the last event. We will have food stations in different areas around the lobby. And we use tactic, their meeting room, for our silent auction.
aloft Tempe has also donated a night stay for us to use in our silent auction.
And finally, aloft Tempe is providing $99 discounted room rates for Twestival Phoenix attendees for the night of the event. The rooms are killer btw.

Public Transportation Update from David_SB:
As there is a growing contingent of Phoenix tweeple who are car-free or who use aim to use public transit when possible, route info leading to @aloftTempe:
Bus 76 stops right outside the hotel & Bus 72 stops a block away on Rural Road/Scottsdale Road. Both connect to light rail at the Tempe Transportation Center.

Nice news about the discounted room rates and the generosity of the hotel.
There are more than a few Phoenix tweeple who are car-free or who use transit part of the time. For their benefit, it’s important to note that Bus 76 stops right outside the hotel & Bus 72 stops a block away on Rural Road. Both connect to light rail at the Tempe Transportation Center.
Finally, the new Lolo’s location three miles north of the hotel in southern Scottsdale starts its new extended hours that night. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a migration to that restaurant later on as Twestival winds down.
Oops. I should have said Scottsdale Rd. rather than Rural Rd. in my previous comment. I forgot that the street changes name as it passes over the Salt River.
Looks like a cool place to hang out but I’ll be out of town.
